Command Sergeant Major Corey K. Cush serves as the senior enlisted leader for the New York National Guard.
In this role he is the senior enlisted advisor to the adjutant general for the service, training, readiness of more than 18,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and New York Guard state defense force volunteers who make up New York State military forces. He focuses especially on joint operations involving members of these forces working together.
From October 2018 to July 2023, Cush served as the command sergeant major for the 42nd Infantry Division. In that role he was the advisor to the division commander on enlisted Soldier standards, appearance, physical conditioning, military courtesy, discipline, and professional development. He advised commander and staff on all areas pertaining to training, combat readiness, troop welfare, health, and morale for all enlisted Soldiers and their families.
Cush enlisted in the Army in 1986, serving as an artilleryman in Germany, Fort Ord, California, and Panama.
He transferred to the New York Army National Guard in August of 1990, joining the 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery. He served in a variety of positions in the battalion, ranging from section chief to battery first sergeant, and eventually as battalion command sergeant major.
He deployed to Afghanistan from 2007 to 2009, serving as the command sergeant major for an Afghan Regional Security Integration Command training an Afghan Army Brigade.
After returning to New York, he served as the top enlisted leader for the 106th Regional Training Institute, and the 53rd Troop Command, before assuming his role with the 42nd Infantry Division.
He deployed with the division in 2020 when the division served as the headquarters for Task Force Spartan, a 10,000-Soldier Army element operating across the Middle East.
Cush is a resident of Mount Vernon and in civilian life is the Chief Technology Officer for Montefiore Health Care system.
