COLONIE, NY--Runners set out on the 2nd Annual New York National Guard Family Readiness Council, Inc. 5K Fundraising run, Saturday June 20 at Colonie Crossings Park, near Albany.
Almost 200 runners participated in the event, which raises money to be used to aid National Guard Soldiers and Airmen and their families during deployment emergencies. The 1st race in 2008 raised almost $11,000.
This year's race was won by New York Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Jonathan Peck,a member ofthe 109th Airlift Wing. He finished with a time of 18 minutes and 48 seconds.
This was the first of two fundraising races set for this summer. On June 27 a second 5K fundraiser will be held at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, the home of the 105th Airlift Wing.
