New York National Guard on Mexican Border in 1916

Soldiers of the New York National Guard's 2nd Field Artillery Regiment Band prepared to perform on horseback in McAllen Texas in the fall of 1916. In June of 1916 President Woodrow Wilson mobilized 125,000 National Guard troops to guard the U.S./Mexico border during a time of rising tension with Mexico. The New York National Guard sent more than 17,000 Citizen Soldiers to the border in Texas.
