Cyber Protection Team 173
The Cyber Protection Team 173 is a joint partnership between the New York and New Jersey National Guard to meet the threats from cyberspace. Soldiers assigned to the Cyber Protection Team train and operate on a traditional part-time basis, in support of state and federal missions. When mobilized for federal active duty, the Cyber Protection Team provides surge support to Army Cyber Command and support to defensive cyberspace operations as assigned.
The Cyber Protection Team provides elite, trained, trusted, disciplined and highly skilled cyber professionals responsive to the needs of the nation while boosting the state and federal cyber defense capabilities. Additionally, the Cyber Protection Team gives New York and New Jersey an additional asset, if needed, when it comes to large-scale emergencies and disasters at home.
Citizen Soldiers are an essential part of the Cyber Protection Team, these cyber professionals, many of whom bring private sector experience, enhance the total Army's cyberspace capabilities and capacities.

"Many of our adversaries lack the ability to confront our forces physically, choosing instead to employ virtual weapons with potentially devastating effect. We must take full advantage of these technologies, building our own capabilities to operate in cyber-space with the same level of skill and confidence we enjoy on the land. We will either adapt to this reality or risk ceding the advantage to future enemies." - CSA General Raymond T. Odierno
