GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI--Members of the New York Army National Guard Stability Transition Team pose with Major General Steven Wickstrom, the commander of the 42nd Infantry Division, at the Army National Guard Readiness Center here prior to departing for Afghanistan on Wednesday, Feb. 29. The team of senior officers and non-commissioned officers will advise and train Afghan National Army and Police units during their nine month deployment. Wickstrom and Col Ray Shields, the chief of staff of the Army National Guard, and Col. Gary Yaple, 42nd Infantry Division Chief of Staff, traveled to Gulfport to wish the Soldiers goodbye. The team has been training at nearby Camp Shelby.
