Joint Task Force Empire Shield’s primary goal is to detect, deter, and prevent potential terrorist operations in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Security operations are implemented daily through pre-planned programs using a random and strategic methodology. Joint Task Force Empire Shield is designed to respond to a wide range of incidents. By developing a highly trained force in incident response and command, the Task Force prepares for domestic emergencies caused by humans or natural phenomena using lessons learned and best practices.
NYS Citizen Preparedness Corps (CPC)
Governor Cuomo has launched the New York State Citizen Preparedness training so residents have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. Citizen Preparedness training began in February 2014 across New York. Trainings are led by the New York National Guard and The American Red Cross working with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Office of Emergency Management, and Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Cyber Support Element (CSE)
The CSE is a pilot program between DMNA and the DHSES Office of Counter Terrorism's Critical Infrastructure Unit. The team enhances the DHSES Cybersecurity capabilities and assessments by developing a Cybersecurity Assessment Program that includes vulnerability assessments that will be offered to State, local, public, and private entities of New York State.
