19 Dec, 2017JFK International Airport-- Soldiers assigned to the New York Army National Guard's 442nd Military Police Company return home to New York through JFK International Airport on Dec. 16, 2017. The company deployed more than 100 Soldiers to Puerto Rico to support local police in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The last 40 Soldiers returned hom on Dec. 16.

21 Nov, 2017NEW YORK-- Volunteers from the New York National Guard and members of the New York Guard pack boxes with groceries for a Thanksgiving meal at the Jacob Javitts Center in New York on Nov. 20, 2017. The boxes, packed as part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's "NY Holiday Giving" event contained a turkey, stuffing, cranberries, corn, a bottle of soda, Pie and a Walmart shopping bag, which were then delivered to locations throughout the State by New York State Department of Transportation.

Lawerence Flynn a former Adjutant General who died on Nov. 12 2017 during his burial ceremony at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on November 17th 2017. In 1986 Maj. Gen. Flynn was appointed by Governor Mario Cuomo as the Adjutant General and Commander of the New York Army National Guard where he served until his retirement in June 1992.

Colin Stewart, from Garden City, a member of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment presents a memorial wreath on behalf of the Rainbow Division Veterans Foundation, at the 42nd Division Memorial in Garden City, N.Y. on Nov. 10, 2017. The foundation, which has a mission to memorialize the 42nd Division, provides for wreaths to be presented at the monument on veterans day. The monument marks the location of the camp where the division was formed in 1917.
9 Nov, 2017According to the Center for Disease Control, Carbon Monoxide (CO) exposure accounts for an estimated 15,000 emergency department visits and 500 unintentional deaths in the United States each year. Gas furnaces, gas water heaters, wood stoves and other combustion-based heating units generate carbon monoxide as a by-product of their operation.CO can't be seen or smelled and the effects of high levels of CO can be easily overlooked or mis-diagnosed. CO poisoning can be prevented however, and the current NYNG Safety Message is all about CO Safety.

11 Sep, 2017RONKONKOMA, N.Y.-- UH-60s assigned to the New York Army National Guard's Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation head towards Richmond, Va. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 on the first leg of a two day trip to Jacksonville, Fl. A total of 10 aircraft from flight facilities at Latham, Ronkonkoma and Rochester and 55 Soldiers were part of the deployment.

10 Sep, 2017St. MARTIN-- Americans stranded on St. Martin following Hurricane Irma fill the bay of an HC-130 assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing on Sept. 9, 2017 during an evacuation mission. The wing deployed 130 Airmen, 3 HHK-60 Pave Hawk helicopters and 2 HC-130s to Puerto Rico to assist in search and rescue missions.
10 Sep, 2017PUERTO RICO-- Airmen of the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing heading out on a mission after staging out of San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sept. 8, 2017. The 106th Rescue Wing deployed two HC-130 King aircraft three HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters three zodiac boats and 124 Airman required to carry out the mission.
8 Sep, 2017GABRESKIT AIR NATINAL GUARD BASE-- For the second time in two weeks, Airmen assigned to the 105th Airlift Wing and 106th Rescue Wing load a HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter onto a C-17 Globemaster III at Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach N.Y. for a deployment in support of hurricane victims on Sept. 7 2017. The helicopters were being dispatched to Puerto Rico in response Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean. On August 26 the two units responded to Hurricane Harvey together.

Edgar Ponce of the New York Army National Guard's 369th Sustainment Brigade carries the brigade colors over the finish line in the inaugural Harlem Hellfighter 5K run held at Camp Arifjan Kuwait on June 2 2017. The event was held to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the formation of the historic New York National Guard unit. The unit was given their historic nickname Hellfighters by their German opponents in WWI for their remarkable prowess on the battlefield.

1 Jun, 2017SODUS POINT-- Reserve Sailors and Marines who are also members of the New York Naval Militia conduct sandbag operations at Sodus Point N.Y. on May 31 2017. Members of the New York National Guard and the New York Naval Militia which is also commanded by the Adjutant General of New York have produced more and 677000 sand bags to help contain the rising waters of Lake Ontario since directed to assist local officials on May 3 by New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. The New York Naval Militia is comprised of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Reserve members who also volunteer to perform state duty when called. A small number of retired Navy and Marine veterns serve as state volunteers.

5 Jun, 2017RONKONKONMA-- Four New York Army National Guard Soldiers who received New York's highest medal for heroism, the Medal for Valor, stand in formation during award ceremonies on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Army Aviation Support Facility # 1 in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. The men were recognized for rescuing the pilot of a light plane which crashed in flames on Feb. 26. They are, from left, Sgt. 2 Jun, 2017GREECE--New York Army National Guard Soldiers deploy the Tiger Dam flood control system along the shores of Braddock Bay in the Town of Greece, N.Y. in response to rising waters on Lake Ontario. The system consists of flexible fabric tubes which are connected and filled with water. The tubes replace sandbags as a flood control mechanism. Since being ordered to assist in flood mitigation duties by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on May 3, New York Army and Air National Guard members, along with members of the New York Naval Militia, have filled more than 673,500 sand bags.

3 May, 2017HAMLIN--Soldiers from the 642nd Aviation Brigade load sandbags for use by the a Hamlin resident on Tuesday, May 2, in support of Governor Andrew Cuomo's declaration of an emergency along Lake Ontario's shoreline due to high water levels. The state is making available 365,000 sandbags that will be used to shore up areas of Lake Ontario shoreline which are eroding due to high water levels. The New York National Guard is one of the state agencies the governor has directed to respond.

The university needed parking lots cleared of three feet of snow so that operations could resume.

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo mobilized more than 1400 National Guard Soldiers and Airmen with up to 2000 on standby in response to the storm.

7 Mar, 2017HAWAII-- A Pararescueman from the 103rd Rescue Squadron of the 106th Rescue Wing signals a low flying C-17 Globemaster following a successful jump during joint training with Human Space Flight Support Detatchment 3 at Marine Core Base HawaiiMarch 5 2017.During this training a rigid inflatible boat (known as a Hard Duck) was dropped from a C-17 along with several jumpers and an inflatable device known as the Front Porch.This device is intended to be mated to the Orion spacecraft and can be used to support astronauts who have made a water landing in the Orion spacecraft following a flight.

The Front Porch would provide a place to offer astronauts medical care after the crew module splashes down at the end of a flight. LC-130 ski-equipped Hercules cargo planes deployed forward to Antarctica from the 109th Airlift Wing, Stratton Air National Guard Base, New York, provide on-continent heavy lift to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, Antarctica, and other remote science outposts in Antarctica.
13 Feb, 2017FORT DRUM Soldiers from the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conduct an army physical fitness test as part of the 27th IBCT best warrior competition at Fort Drum, N.Y., Feb. 11. In addition to the APFT, the Soldiers had to go before a military board, complete a land navigation course, perform an eight mile ruck march, and pass a written test as part of the brigade-level competition.
