The wing flies the largest ski-equipped aircraft in the world and supports National Science Foundation research in Antarctica. Manville won in the enlisted Soldier category, while, Clemente won in the NCO category.

The Department of Defense through U.S. Northern Command and in support of the Department of Homeland Security is providing transportation temporary housing medical screening and general support for at least 50000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities in permanent or temporary structures as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan.

SCHYULERVILLE-- Two members of the New York Army National Guard Honor Guard present an American flag to the family members of Corporal Walter Smead, a Korean War Soldier who was originally declared missing in action in 1950, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville New York on Sept. 20 2021. Smead, a member of the 7th Infantry Division, was declared missing in action following a series of battles around the Chosen Reservoir in December of 1950. His remains were recently identified .

WESTHAMPTON BEACH- Air National Guard members move the HC-130 dubbed "The Spirit of Long Island" into position as a "gate guardian" for F.S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, New York on August 16, 2021. The aircraft, which saw service during the Vietnam War, was taken out of service in 2019. The aircraft's wings were removed for the move and will be assembled at its final position. The disassembling and move was completed by Air National Guard service members from New York, Connecticut, Arkansas and US Air Force Active duty personnel.

Nicholas Trentanelli, executive officer of Delta Company, 152nd Brigade Engineer Battalion, 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team deadlifts more than 400lbs during a workout at the Atkins Functional Fitness Facility in Fort Drum, New York on July 22. On the day prior, Trentanelli successfully benched, squated, and deadlifted a combined total of 1550 pounds, breaking Fort Drums previous 1,000 pound club record by 325 pounds.

JONES BEACH-- New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, along with members of the New York Naval Militia and New York Guard who had been staffing the drive through COVID-19 test site and then vaccination site at Jones Beach State Park fall in for a final formation on July 22, 2021 as the operation shut down. Service members at the location assisted in administering 199,293 vaccinations, of which 17,027 were administered by National Guard Airmen and Soldiers.

CAMP NAVAJO, ARIZONA--New York Army National Guard Cpl. Dakotah Miller, an infantryman in the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, finished in second place in the Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition held at held in Camp Navajo, Arizona, July 19-23. Miller is a full-time student in exercise science at SUNY Cortland. It marked the fourth year in a row that the New York National Guard sent a competitor to the national level.

According to the Veterans Administration, more than 6,000 Veterans lost their lives to suicide in 2017, and that number continues to rise. Stresses of Military life can be tramatic, or acute - building gradually over time - escalating the Veteran suicide rate to roughly twice that of the population as a whole. The NYARNG Safety Office has assembled tips to help identify the warning signs of suicide and suggested actions one can take to help anyone suffering from mental health crises.

Getting the appropriate amount of rest before driving and limiting drive duration are examples of how to help prevent fatigued driving, a leading cause of accidents and fatalities. National Guard Civil Support Teams are trained to detect chemical biological radiological nuclear and high explosive materials and report on potential threats to civil authorities. The 324th Civil Support Team based at Fort Hamilton is one of two in the New York National Guard and focuses on the New York City metropolitan area.

NEW YORK-- Soldiers of the New York Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry step off for an abbreviated version of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade accompanied by Irish Wolfhounds, the traditional mascot of the regiment, in New York City on March 17, 2021. The regiment has led the parade annually since 1851. Although the usual massive parade-- led by the complete battalion-- was not held due to the pandemic, 50 Soldiers joined the Ancient Order of Hibernians in conducting a smaller version of what is normally the largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in the world.

KANGERLUSSUAQ, GREENLAND--An LC-130 Skibird from the 109th Airlift Wing sits on the ramp at Kangerlussuaq Airport Greenland with the Northern Lights dazzling in the sky above. The Northern Lights occur during the winter and are especially bright on a dark night in Greenland. The 109th conducts training and scientific research support annually in Greenland from March-August.

Peterson was a Revolutionary War patriot of African and Kitchawan descent who interfered with Benedict Arnold's plans to betray the American fort at West Point to the British in 1780. Peterson fired on a boat that was going to pick up Major Andre, Arnold's contact. That action eventually resulted in Andre's capture.

STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE-- An LC-130 "Skibird" assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing taxies to the hanger at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, New York on Wednesday night, Feb. 24 as the crew returns from a deployment to Antarctica and New Zealand. Three aircraft and their crews conducted missions moving 148 researchers and support staff and 63,000 pounds of critical cargo to facilities in Antarctica between November and February. They also conducted three medical evacuation missions.

A third of the regiment's 3,000 men were killed or wounded in this advance. An additional 250 Soldiers from the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team joined 1,000 who were already sent to Washington on January 8-9.
