30 Dec, 2022BUFFALO-- A a Soldier in the New York National Guard's 105th Military POlice Company takes a break from going house-to-house in Buffalo conducting health and wellness checks, to share an additional Christmas gift with one of the neighborhood kids on Dec. 30, 2022. The toys had been donated to the New York National Guard Family Readiness Program for Guard members children. 21 Oct, 2022SARATOGA NATIONAL CEMETERY--Members of the New York National Guard Honor Guard fold an American Flag during military honors for the dedication of a memorial stone for Private Oliver Barrett at the Saratoga National Cemetery on October 19 2022. Barrett volunteered as a Minuteman and died serving under the 10th Massachusetts Regiment in the Battle of Saratoga on October 7 1777 at 51 years of age. Barrett lies in an unmarked grave on the Saratoga Battlefield and was honored with a memorial stone at the ceremony.

Sep. 6, 2022 to mark the end of Task Force Wolfhounds training. The units colors were cased to signify that the unit has finished its training and is ready to deploy overseas. The colors will be unfurled in Africa when the unit assumes responsibility for a security mission as part of Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.

31 Aug, 2022MINNEASKA STATE PARK PRESERVE-- New York Army National Guard UH-60 M dips water into a Bambi Bucket from Lake Minnewaska at Minnewaska State Park Preserve near New Paltz in Ulster County while fighting the 270 acre Napanoch Point Fire in ther park which is located near New Paltz in the Hudson Valley on August 30 2022.. The New York National Guard deployed two helicopters which dropped 80 of the 660 gallon buckets of water on the fires.

Hokanson was there to present one Distinguished F lying Cross and five Air Medals to the flight crew. They were recognized for their airmanship and valor in August 2021 when they delivered critical cargo and personnel to Kabul Airport dispite small arms fire and other dangers.

23 May, 2022OVER THE ATLANTIC--New York Air National Guard Technical Sgt. Steven Benza, a loadmaster, and Chief Master Sgt. Craig Connor, a flight engineer, who are both assigned to the 106th Rescue Wing, work to assemble a medical supply cargo drop during a mission into the North Atlantic on May 20, 2022. The 106th Rescue Wing launched a mission to drop medical supplies to the crew of the French-registered sailboat Namah which was sailing from France to Panama and was 1,200 east of Long Island. A crewmember had second degree burns and the crew required supplies to treat her.

Along with deploying the Civil Support Team to help analyze the spill, the Military Emergency Boat Team deployed an oil boom in the river.

10 May, 2022NIAGARA FALLS-- A CH-47 Chinook assigned to the New York Army National Guards Bravo Company 3rd Battalion 126th Aviation removes a 3900-pound steel pontoon from the Niagara River just above the American side of Niagara Falls in Niagara Falls New York on May 4 2022. The pontoon which washed away from an ice dam in 2019 was removed because of concerns that it could go over the falls and damage the Cave of the Winds.

6 May, 2022SLEEPY HOLLOW- Combined Color Guards from the New York Guard, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, and the Veterans Corps of Artillery, an honorary military organization, present arms during a ceremony honoring members of the New York Guard who died while protecting the New York City water system during World War I on May 1 in Sleep Holly Cemetery. Forty members of the state militia force died from influenza and accidents while protecting the city water system from sabotage.

Jason Candido, a propulsion specialist at the 109th Airlift Wing, performs maintenance on a 3.5 turbo engine on Jan. 26, 2022 at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Schenectady, New York. Candido was one of two airmen who spent over a month assembling the engine from scratch. The new engine will provide more power for the wing's LC-130 Skibirds as they take off from the ice in Antarctica or Greenland.

Elena Parra-Perez with a traditional Piping Ashore ceremony on Dec. 29 2021 as she concludes her tour of duty with the detail. Naval Militia Sailors and Marines have been working in the personnel and finance offices during the New York National Guard COVID-19 response to assist with administrative tasks. The New York Naval Militia is composed of Navy Coast Guard and Marine Corps Reserve members who also volunteer to perform state duty when called.
