ROCHESTER--Onlookers watch as a UH-1 "Huey" medical evacuation helicopter is installed outside Army Aviation Support Facility #2 in Rochester on Dec. 16, 2022. The medevac helicopter, and an AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter, were placed on stands outside the facility to commemorate aircraft once flow by New York Army National Guard aviators stationed there. BUFFALO-- A a Soldier in the New York National Guard's 105th Military POlice Company takes a break from going house-to-house in Buffalo conducting health and wellness checks, to share an additional Christmas gift with one of the neighborhood kids on Dec. 30, 2022. The toys had been donated to the New York National Guard Family Readiness Program for Guard members children. Those not used were sent to Buffalo to be distributed to families hit by the Christmas snow storm.

SARATOGA NATIONAL CEMETERY--Members of the New York National Guard Honor Guard fold an American Flag during military honors for the dedication of a memorial stone for Private Oliver Barrett at the Saratoga National Cemetery on October 19 2022. Barrett volunteered as a Minuteman and died serving under the 10th Massachusetts Regiment in the Battle of Saratoga on October 7 1777 at 51 years of age. Barrett lies in an unmarked grave on the Saratoga Battlefield and was honored with a memorial stone at the ceremony.

CAMP SIMBA, Kenya-- New York Army National Guard Soldiers deployed to East Africa as part of Task Force Wolfhound and stationed at Camp Simba, Kenya, receive their "combat patches" during an October 12, 2022 ceremony at the base. Combat patches are earned when Soldiers perform 30 days of duty in a designated area. The New York National Guard Soldiers are deployed as part of Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, and are conducting security missions at U.S. facilities in the region.

At one time goats were carried on sailing ships for their milk. The 106th Rescue Wing launched a mission to drop medical supplies to the crew of the French-registered sailboat Namah which was sailing from France to Panama and was 1,200 east of Long Island. A crewmember had second degree burns and the crew required supplies to treat her.

KINGSTON-New York Naval Militia landing craft LC-350 pulls up on shore in Kingston, New York to debark an ATV assigned to the 2nd Civil Support Team on May 11 during a three-day United States Coast Guard exercise testing an interagency response to an oil spill on the Hudson River. Along with deploying the Civil Support Team to help analyze the spill, the Military Emergency Boat Team deployed an oil boom in the river.

NIAGARA FALLS-- A CH-47 Chinook assigned to the New York Army National Guards Bravo Company 3rd Battalion 126th Aviation removes a 3900-pound steel pontoon from the Niagara River just above the American side of Niagara Falls in Niagara Falls New York on May 4 2022. The pontoon which washed away from an ice dam in 2019 was removed because of concerns that it could go over the falls and damage the Cave of the Winds.

SLEEPY HOLLOW- Combined Color Guards from the New York Guard, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, and the Veterans Corps of Artillery, an honorary military organization, present arms during a ceremony honoring members of the New York Guard who died while protecting the New York City water system during World War I on May 1 in Sleep Holly Cemetery. Forty members of the state militia force died from influenza and accidents while protecting the city water system from sabotage.

The "Fighting 69th" has led the world's largest St. Patrick's Day parade since 1851.

SCOTIA--U.S. Air National Guard Staff. Sgt. Jason Candido, a propulsion specialist at the 109th Airlift Wing, performs maintenance on a 3.5 turbo engine on Jan. 26, 2022 at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Schenectady, New York. Candido was one of two airmen who spent over a month assembling the engine from scratch. The new engine will provide more power for the wing's LC-130 Skibirds as they take off from the ice in Antarctica or Greenland.

Naval Militia Sailors and Marines have been working in the personnel and finance offices during the New York National Guard COVID-19 response to assist with administrative tasks. The New York Naval Militia is composed of Navy Coast Guard and Marine Corps Reserve members who also volunteer to perform state duty when called.
