ROCHESTER-- New York Army National Guard Soldiers and Airmen work at the Rochester drive-thru COVID-19 test site during a snow burst on Dec. 16, 2020. 5,066 Soldiers, Airmen, Naval Militia and New York Guard members have served during the COVID-19 response, with 1693 on duty on New Year's Eve 2020. More than 1 million COVID-19 tests have been collected at testing sites were Guard Soldiers and Airmen are on duty.

Joseph Casaburi, for his 99th birthday after he survived a three-month long battle with COVID-19 at the nursing home Angus on Hudson, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., on December 8, 2020. Casaburi is a Purple Heart recipient awarded for his service during World War II, while assigned to the United States Army Air Force, where he was struck in the leg by a mortar fragment while deployed to the front lines in Germany.

BALLSTON SPA--Volunteers from the New York National Guard pass a tree up to FedEx driver Don Pelletier during the Trees for Troops loadout November 30, 2020 at Ellms Tree Farm in Ballston Spa, N.Y. More than 20 volunteers from the New York Army and Air National Guard joined with Capital District area veterans to help load about 125 Christmas trees being donated and sent to military bases around the country to support troops and military families this holiday season. This marks the 16th year of military members volunteering their time to assist in the loading of trees destined for fellow service members and their families around the country and around the world.

Major Robert Freed posed for the figure holding the radio Major (Chaplain) James Kim was the model for the crouching figure and Sgt. 1st Class Jonathan Morrison was the model for the rifleman at the right of the tableau. Other New York National Guard Soldiers modeled for figures in a World War II scene. During the week of October 23-31 people and groups opposed to drug use display red ribbons to show a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. Each ribbon marks a show of support for those struggling with drug addiction. The tradition started following the murder of Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Kiki Camarena in 1985 by Mexican drug traffickers.

CAMP ETHAN ALLEN, Vermont-- New York Army National Guard Corporal Troy Perez a member of the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry finishs up the 12-mile ruck march during the Army National Guard Northeast Region Best Warrior Competition at Camp Ethan Allen in Jericho Vermont on August 16 2020. Perez finished first in the junior enlisted category of the competition. It is the third time in three years a New York Army Guard Soldier has won.

RONKONKOMA--Members of the New York Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion 142nd Aviation Regiment secure a new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter after it arrived at their flight facility in Ronkonkoma N.Y. August 18 2020. The UH-60M is the most current version of the Black Hawk helicopter and offers many improvements including more efficient rotor blades glass cockpit improved engines and flight controls and aircraft navigation.

New York Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crews conduct water bucket ("Bambi Bucket") training at Round Lake, NY Wednesday May 13. A full Bambi Bucket holds 560 gallons and weights over two tons. Pilots, crews and maintenance personnel train with the bucket every spring in order to remain ready to support the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. In July of 2018 two New York Army National Guard UH-60 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets were called to a forest fire in Flat Rock State Forest in Altona N.Y. where the aircrews dropped 126,000 gallons of water on the 526-acre fire over a 3 day period.

CAMP ARIFJAN--Sixteen Soldiers assigned to the 42nd Infantry Division headquarters who deployed with the division to Iraq in 2005 and are currently deployed to Camp Arifjan Kuwait gathered for a group photo on May 16 2020. A search and rescue plane and two rescue helicopters assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing will conduct a flyover around Long Island on Friday, May 15 to salute healthcare, essential workers and first responders dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The flyover, which will begin at 12p.m. over Westhampton Beach, and will conclude by 2 p.m. after making a circuit of eastern Long Island, will feature one of the wing's HC-130J search and rescue aircraft and two HH-60G rescue helicopters flying in formation.

NEW ROCHELLE-- New York Army National Guard medics who will be helping with information collection at a drive-thru coronavirus testing station in Westchester County receive instruction on how to wear protective clothing from Westchester County health sanitarian Stefan Goreau at the New York State Department of Health officers in New Rochelle N.Y. on March 14 2020. New York State is establishing drive-thru testing stations so that people dispatched to get a test by their doctor can do so easily and not contaminate other people. ALASKA--U.S. Marines with 5th Battalion 11th Marine Regiment load a M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) onto a New York Air National Guard LC-130H assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing during U.S. Northern Commands Exercise Arctic Edge. Arctic Edge 2020 is a North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command exercise scheduled every two years. The exercise focuses on training experimentation techniques tactics and procedures development for Homeland Defense operations in an Arctic environment. GLENVILLE- Airmen from the 109th Airlift Wing provide funeral honors for New York Air National Guard Staff Sgt. George Girtler on January 31, 2020 at St. Anthony Cemetery, Glenville, N.Y. Girtler, a mechanic in the wing, died of a pulmonary embolism on January 11 while deployed to McMurdo Station, Antarctica with other members of the 109th Airlift Wing. Girtler, age 37,was an aircraft electrical and environmental specialist.

STRATTON AIR GUARD BASE--A finished crate constructed by Airmen of the 109th Airlift Wing and designed to carry the landing gear skis that enable wing's LC-130s to land on ice and snow, sits on a trailer ready to be shipped to Antarctica for use at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia N.Y. in December 2019. The 109th Airlift Wings Logistical Readiness Squadron designed the new crates to carry the 25-foot long skis of the wing's LC-130s.
