Timothy LaBarge the commander of the 105th Airlift Wing presented a 105th Airlift Wing poster to Oneida County Aviation Commissioner Russell Stark in recognition of the support that Griffiss International Airport and the Million Air company provide to the wings training program. The 105th Airlift Wing is based at Stewart Air National Guard Base outside Newburgh.

Fallen Airman rememberedHAWTHORNE--Colonel Timothy J. LaBarge, commander of the 105th Airlift Wing presents an American flag to the wife of New York Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Joseph G. Lemm at a funeral ceremony held on December 30, 2015. Tech. Sgt. Lemm was killed in action while deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan on December 21st, 2015.

Video honoredBUFFALO-- Soldiers of the 152nd Engineer company manuever at annual training in a video they prepared for submission in the first New York National Guard video competition. Their video was picked as the best unit video by Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York. Earlier this year the general urged Army and Air Guard units to submit videos highlighting their unit training.

Fallen Airman Honored at Stewart Air Guard BaseSTEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE--The remains of New York Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Joseph G. Lemm are transferred from a C-17 to a hearse during a ceremony on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 at Stewart Air National Guard Base by members of the 105th Airlift Wing. Lemm was killed in action while deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan on December 21st 2015. Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa, another member of the 105th Base Defense Squadron and four other Airmen were also killed in the attack.

MQ-9 Takes Flight at Hancock FieldSYRACUSE--An MQ-9 remotely piloted aircraft operated by the New York Air National Guards 174th Attack Wing takes to the air from the runway at Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse N.Y. on Wednesday Dec. 162015. This was the first time a military RPA operated from an air field used by both military and civilian aircraft. Hancock Field Air National Guard Base the home of the 174th shares the field with the commercial airport. Until now the wing has only flow its MQ-9 Reaper aircraft from Wheeler Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum N.Y.

Troops young and old mark National Guard BirthdayLATHAM, N.Y. -- New York National Guard recruits Zander Griffin (left) and Andrew Valenza (right) join retired New York Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Five Brian Smith to cut a cake during ceremonies celebrating the National Guard's 379th birthday at the New York State Division of Military Affairs here on Dec. 11, 2015. Griffin and Valenza, both 17, are some the of youngest New York National members while Smith served for 39 years as helicopter pilot. Smith performed tours of duty in Iraq and Bosnia, took part in humanitarian missions in Central America, and responded to domestic emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. To recognize his many years of service, Smith was awarded the Legion of Merit at the cake-cutting ceremony. Griffin is part of the 109 Airlift Wing and Valenza is part of Joint Force Headquarters. Rainbow Division Honored for Veterans DayGARDEN CITY--New York Army National Guard Major Ian Seagriff and Staff Sergeant Justin Wolcott presented a memorial wreath on behalf of the New York Army National Guards 42nd Infantry Division at the World War I Rainbow Division Veterans Memorial located on Long Island in Garden City (Nassau County) on Nov. 10, 2015 to honor the service of past 42nd Infantry Division Soldiers for Veterans Day. The monument commemorates the location where the division was mobilized during World War I.

369th Leaders participate in ConferenceCAMP ATTERBURY, IN--Col. David Martinez, commander of the New York Army National Guard's 369th Sustainment Brigade, participates in discussion Oct. 25 during First Army's first Total Force Sustainment Readiness Commanders Conference at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Attending the conference were commanders of Army National Guard and Army Reserve sustainment units, along with commanders of their active-duty sustainment unit training partners, and senior leaders from First Army, National Guard Bureau, Army Reserve, U.S. Forces Command and Combined Arms Support Command. Participants worked on building partnerships and discussed how to maximize opportunities to provide the readiness training reserve-component sustainment units want and need.

New York Guard members MemorializedSLEEPY HOLLOW-- This Memorial Stone in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery memorializes 40 members of the New York Guard who died during the world wide influenza epedimic in 1918 while on duty guarding the New York City water system. The stone was hewn from the aqueduct quarry in upstate New York by the members of the First Provisional Regiment and placed at a site purchased by William Rockefeller for the burial of those members of the Regiment that were homeless or did not otherwise have a place to be buried. New York Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major Louis Wilson will receive the medal from President Barack Obama on his behalf. Johnson was honored with a French medal for his heroism but received no American honors at the time.

Christian Hager,a member of the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry from Batavia, runs across the Old North Bridge here at the conclusion of the Northeast Region Best Warrior competition on May 15, 2015. Hager won the New York Army National Guard Best Warrior competition in the NCO category. The competition was held at Camp Edwards May 12-15 and wrapped up with a 12-kilometer road march that ended at the historic site. Linda Rohatsch receives a Bronze Star Medal with Valor awarded posthumously to her son, Staff Sgt. Todd "TJ" Lobraico, from Col. Timothy LaBarge, commandeer of the 105th Airlift Wing, during ceremonies here on Saturday, April 11. Lobraico, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in September 2013 is credited with taking actions which saved the life of other members of the 105th Security Forces Squadron. His father, Master Sgt. Todd Lobraico is also a member of the 105th.

Guard Airmen Train in Hazardous ResponsePERRY GA - New York Air National Guard Airman First Class Bryan Chang an emergency manager from the 106th Rescue Wing strips off his Level A hazardous material suit during exercises on the first day of exercise Global Dragon here on March 9 2015. Airmen trained in Level A Hazardous Material suits used their equipment to test for chemical biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) contamination. The training emphasized coordination within small teams with each airman working to support their wingman to accomplish the mission. Exercise Global Dragon is a two-week long course taking place at the Guardian Center in Perry Georgia. The Guardian Center houses several training fascilities that simulate demolished city blocks flooded towns and CBRN-contaiminated areas.

"Lost" Painting Found by Military MuseumSARATOGA SPRINGS --This painting by 19th century military artist James Walker, depicting the May 13-14, 1864 Battle of Resaca, in Georgia, was "lost" following the demolition of a New York National Guard armory in New York City in 1959. The painting, stored at West Point before being turned back over to the New York National Guard, was actually mislabeled as the "Battle of Gettysburg." The challenge now is where to display the 12-foot-long artwork held by the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs.

Jonathan Peck, a member of the 109th Airlift Wing, runs the annual McMurdo Marathon in Antarctica on Jan. 11, 2015. He and Master Sgt. Michael Lazzari, also a 109th Airlift Wing member both ran the 26.2-mile course -- a feat few in the world can say they accomplished. The wing rotates Airmen and ski-eqipped LC-130 planes into and out of the United States McMurdo Station to support Antarctic research duiing the Antarctic summer from the wing's home at Stratton Air Natinal Guard Base in Scotia.

On Duty for Buffalo Snow Jan. 9BUFFALO--New York National Guard response forces from the 105th Military Police Company provide traffic control near Buffalo, New York following substantial lake effect snowfall across Western New York January 9. Governor Andrew M. Cuomo activated approximately 100 National Guard members to provide augmentation to law enforcement during the snowfall, which forced the closure of the New York State Thruway and local roads in the region. The Guard employed three initial response forces with humvees and personnel for the traffic control missions, ensuring motorists avoided the closed roads.
