ROSE--Soldiers of the New York National Guard honor guard carry the remains of 1st Lieutenant John Thomas a U.S. Army Air Forces pilot who was killed in action during World War II in 1943 to his final resting place at the Rose Cemetery in Rose New York on May 20 2023. Thomas was one of over 6500 veterans the New York Army National Guard Honor Guard provided honors for in 2023.

Sean McCauley, age 17, joins Chief Warrant Officer 5 Mark Shumway, the New York Army National Guard command chief warrant officer, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Michael Zanghi, age 60, in cutting the National Guard birthday cake during a ceremony marking the 378th anniversary of the National Guard on Dec. 13, 2023 at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham, New York, McCauley, who enlisted in July and was the youngest Guardsman present, represented the future of the National Guard, while Zanghi, who retires in February 2024 represented the history and traditions of the Guard. Shumway served as the presiding officer for the ceremony.

Forty-eight New York Army National Guard troops are among those participating in Southern Vanguard 24, which is an annual bilateral exercise designed to enhance partner interoperability between participating U.S. and Brazil.

The wing saluted both the Yankees and the New York Police Department by painting symbols recognizing them on the ends of the wings of their nine aircraft and officially marked the decision by hosting representatives for a ceremony.

STONY POINT-- Twenty-two New York National Guard members, along with members of the New York Guard and the New York Naval Militia, approach a lighthouse built in 1826, during a professional development tour the Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site on Sept. 28, 2023. The servicemembers are assigned to the migrant support mission in New York City, and visited the battlefield to further their military education. On the night of July 16, 1779 Continental Army Soldiers conducted a daring night attack and overwhelmed a British force of 600 men.

CAMP BUERHING, Kuwait --New York Army National Guard Sgt. Robert Espinal and Spc. Reynaldo Castillo, combat medical specialists assigned to the 642nd Aviation Support Battalion, check the inner thigh heartbeat of Laska a military working dog supervised by MWD handlers assigned to Area Support Group - Kuwait on September 22 2023 at Camp Buehring Kuwait. The battalion is assigned to the 185th Aviation Battalion while deployed. Combat medical specialists from the 185th conducted training on how safely stabilize military working dogs injured on duty. This included assessing vital signs recognizing and treating shock and heat injuries and where to apply intravenous fluids. The 185th is deployed in support of Operations Inherent Resolve Spartan Shield and New Normal.

NEW YORK-- New York Governor Kathy Hochul speaks with New York National Guard leaders during a meeting at the 5th Avenue Armory in Harlem on Sept. 25, 2023 prior to a press event at which she announced that 150 more New York National Guard personnel would be added to the ongoing migrant support mission in the city. The New York National Guard currently has just over 1,900 troops on duty in New York City and at hotels in Erie and Monroe counties providing logistical and administrative support to state officials overseeing shelter operations.

Hai Nguyen a combat medic assigned to the 466th Area Support Medical Company assists a Brazilian medical officer during emergency trauma care in Foz Do Iguaz, Brazil while taking part in Operation Parana III, a humanitarian response exercise on August 15 2023. The New York National Guard sent 18 personnel to participate in Operation Parana from August 12-19 2023 along with more than 14 participating countries as part of the National Guard State Partnership Program.

Poluru, is a full-time Guard Airmen working with the National Reconnaissance office in Herndon, Virginia where he tracks satellites, among other duties. The National Reconnaissance Office is the agency which runs America's space surveillance systems.

The wing flew search missions on June 19, 20 and 21 in support of the Coast Guard directed search.

MENDONOfficials speak to each other following a ceremony held on June 11, 2023, in Mendon, New York to unveil a monument dedicated to three New York Army National Guard helicopter pilots who lost their lives when their UH-60 Black Hawk crashed in Mendon during a night training mission on January 20, 2022. The design of three flying geese commemorates warrant officers Steven Skoda, Daniel Prial and Christian Koch who were killed in the crash. Town officials commissioned the monument and a local artist created it. The memorial also includes plaques commemorating the three Guardsmen.

Major Corey Cush, the senior enlisted leader for the 42nd Infantry Division, salutes the remains of a World War I Soldier which were interred at the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery on June 7, 2023. The Soldier was buried in a churchyard that is within the area the 42nd Infantry Division operated in during 1918. The Soldier was probably a member of the 165th Infantry Regiment, originally the New York National Guard's 69th Infantry.

ROSE, New York --Soldiers of the New York National Guard honor guard receive the remains of 1st Lieutenant John Thomas a World War II Army Air Forces pilot who was killed in 1943 at the Rose Cemetery in North Rose New York on May 20 2023. Thomas was killed in action during a World War 2 bombing mission called Operation Tidal Wave in 1943 and his remains were not identified until 2022.

The vignette touched on the regiments service on the battlefield as well as the contributions the regimental band made to jazz music.

DJIBOUTI--Fifteen New York Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa received their United States citizenship during a historic naturalization ceremony at the United States Embassy in Djibouti City Djibouti Mar. 10. The Soldiers all belonging to the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team are in the midst of a 9 month deployment to CJTF-HOA conducting security and crisis response operations and are slated to return to the U.S. this summer. The ceremony is the first of its kind in the newly constructed U.S. Embassy and is a historic event for CJTF-HOA who has never before seen so many of its members become naturalized citizens at once. Maj. Gen. Jami Shawley the CJTF-HOA commander and the honorable Jonathan Pratt the United States Ambassador to Djibouti spoke at the ceremony and were among the first to congratulate the new citizens.

Sayal was chosen because she demonstrates confidence and competence far above her rank having worked on numerous investigations and projects within the legal section. Sgt. Billalba was chosen for his outstanding work with a forward logistics site he was able to thrive with despite great adversity.

NIAGARA FALLS--Staff Sgt Kevin Au 107th Attack Wing receives the New York State Military Commendation Medal from Col Andrew Carlson wing commander and Brigadier General Denise Donnell commander of the New York Air National Guard Dec 30 2022 Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Eighteen members of the 107 ATKW earned the medal for displaying exemplary dedication and resiliency during their activation through a storm that would eventually claim 39 lives.

BUFFALO-- New York Guard Staff Sgt. Kris Bateman, (L) and SPC Israa Cahill (M) work alongside a New York Army National Guard soldier as DLAN Operators in the Joint Operations Center (JOC), at the Connecticut St. Armory, Buffalo NY on December 29th, 2022, as part of Joint Task Force 5 Operation December Winter Storm 2022. Eight New York Guard members are on state active duty, along with over six hundred Soldiers from the New York National Guard in the western New York area, who are assisting with rescue and recovery efforts following the historic snowstorm which hit the region over the Christmas weekend.
